Lord, we come, united in confessing, Too often we have sought your blessing
Without seeking You. Focusing on what we want you to do
Without humility to pursue, Your heart, failed before we even start, but here in our confession
Pausing for Holy Spirit intercession,
We rest.
As burdens confessed become invitation. We discover you patiently
Attending to our wounds. We who have consumed our placebo faith
For far too long. Find there is no song strong enough to be.
Be the idol to which we have attended.
We who have befriended the ways of rhythms we could never sustain,
Laying claim to identities wrapped insecurely, but surely You have seen.
Beyond our attempts to seem clean, we’ve not been changed.
Merely rearranged the decor.
The more confident we became, the less we called Your Name,
With no one to blame but self.
And no amount of wealth could bring the health we seek
No word we speak could bring what’s truly needed.
Yet as tides of pride receded, we discover You have interceded
Before we even knew to pray, nothing we could say You don’t already know
And yet you show us amazing grace.
We slow our pace, and discover Your face from us has never turned
What we yearned for, discontent,
All the time spent on how we appear, we had overlooked You actually here.
Drawing us near, with no reason to fear.
Already forgiving our wrongs, You are the One singing us the song.
The song of New Beginning, we cease from all plate spinning,
To abide.
Entering Your arms open wide, we are embraced
Just a small taste of Kingdom coming
No more numbing the pain with louder singing, but bringing
Every hurt for healing, Your Love revealing what can be, as we
With faith now woken, hear all already spoken,
And obey.
Not as a way to heaven gain, but as those who remain within Your Love
Finding here enough to quench all thirst, hearts bursting at the seams
As we are filled, thankful for these moments where we stilled
Our hearts and mind, once blind, but now we see
That who we will be, is who we’ve always been, even when
We were at our worst, even before we rehearsed our Holy living,
Or started giving You any of our own, we were children, at Your throne
Being given a home, known
And deeply Loved. Amen.
